Softball Secures Series Against Florida Tech

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle Softball split a doubleheader with Florida Tech on Saturday, winning 11-4 in game one but dropping game two 5-3. That gave the Eagles their third Sunshine State Conference series win this season. Katriana Bain produced in both games, going 4-for-7 with one run and three RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1st Inning 
  • Though the Panthers got the opening run, Bain made a statement as she immediately threw a runner out trying to steal second after entering the game with two outs in the top of the inning. 
  • Embry-Riddle responded to the Panthers' early one-run lead by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. 
  • The Eagles produced four straight singles with Emma Wood and Bain putting balls in play to score baserunners.
  • Gianna Domenici drove in a pair with a two-RBI single, and Kelsey Kressler's sac bunt added another, putting Embry-Riddle ahead 5-1 after the first.
2nd Inning
  • In the second inning, Embry-Riddle extended its lead by adding four more runs. 
  • Raissa Bianco doubled and Wood drove her in with a single. 
  • Mattea Martin's first triple of the season to right center cleared the bases, and a wild pitch allowed another run to score, bringing the tally to 9-1
4th Inning
  • FT narrowed the gap in the fourth with a two-run homer from Shortal and an RBI groundout, but Embry-Riddle maintained the lead at 9-4.
5th Inning
  • ERAU solidified its lead as Wood singled to drive in two more runs, capitalizing on a defensive error by FT. This increased the lead to 11-4.
  • Relief pitcher Larisa Sol Tinajero and the Eagles' defense held the visitors hitless over the final three innings to secure the victory.

INSIDE THE STATS
  • Oberkehr's incredible hit streak ended, an impressive accomplishment that spanned across 30-straight games. 
  • The Eagles outhit the Panthers 13-6.
  • Embry-Riddle hit .467 (7-for-15) with runners in scoring position while holding FT to a 2-for-10 mark in the same scenario.
  • It was Tinajero's best appearance of the season as it was the freshman's first outing of the year where she allowed no runs over two or more innings of pitching.
  • Bianco (3) and Wood (2) tallied season-highs in runs.
  • Domenici's two RBIs were the first of her career.


Game 2 | Florida Tech - 5, Embry-Riddle - 3 

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Inning
  • Florida Tech took an early lead with two runs. 
  • Casillas tripled to center field, scoring Fariello, followed by Rider doubling down the left field line to bring in Casillas, making it 2-0. 
3rd Inning
  • FT added two more runs in the third inning. 
  • Fariello singled, and Schwartz was hit by a pitch, setting up Rider, who singled to left field, driving in Fariello. 
  • Shortal followed with a single, scoring Schwartz, extending their lead to 4-0. 
4th Inning 6th Inning
  • The sixth inning saw the Eagles rally with two runs. 
  • Bianco walked to load the bases.
  • Bain then singled to left center, scoring Morgan and Bianco, reducing the deficit to 4-3.
7th Inning
  • The Panthers added an insurance run with a solo homer by Casillas, making it 5-3. 
  • Oberkehr did make a fantastic diving catch in foul territory by left field.
  • The Eagles attempted a comeback by putting the potential tying run in scoring position.
  • However, a strikeout and foul out ended the game.

  • Kressler stole a season-best two bases.
  • Embry-Riddle left 13 runners on base, a season high.

UP NEXT
Embry-Riddle takes it's only out-of-state road trip of the season next week as the Eagles head to Valdosta State on Tuesday, April 8 for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
