Oberkehr Named Softball’s Third-Ever Academic All-American

| By:
GREENWOOD, Ind. – With a brain as fast as her legs, Embry-Riddle Softball's Leah Oberkehr became just the third member of the program (Kassidy Simons, 2017 and Raissa Bianco, 2024) to earn College Sports Communicators Academic All-American honors on Tuesday. The junior was selected to the third team as an outfielder and the only representative from the Sunshine State Conference.

"Leah is a model student-athlete of our student-person-player model of development here at Embry-Riddle," said Head Coach Kelsi Dunne Diaz. "This honor exemplifies the value that she brings to our softball program and the lives of those around her. Her discipline to excellence, time-management, competitiveness, and attitude of gratitude are just a few of the characteristics that make her a winner. Leah goes above and beyond to succeed at the highest level in everything that she does. I'm very proud of the person that she is, how she represents our Eagle program, and all that she accomplished this year. Congratulations, Leah!"

It's Oberkehr's fourth award of the season after gathering All-SSC and CSC Academic All-District honors on top of the New Balance/NFCA Golden Shoe award. This marks the Ponte Vedra, Florida product's ninth collegiate accolade. Last year, she earned a spot on the SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, received the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award, and was named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete.

Majoring in Civil Engineering, Oberkehr maintained a 3.93 cumulative GPA. She was also one of the top student-athletes in the NCAA II on the basepaths, leading the division in stolen bases per game (1.06) among those who played 10 or more contests and was second in total bases stolen with 50 in 51 attempts for a .980 stolen base percentage over 47 games. In 2025, Oberkehr broke the program's single-game (5) and single-season stolen base records and finished her season seventh on the SSC's single-season stolen base list.

Additionally, Oberkehr produced a team-high 42 runs alongside 18 RBI with a .335 batting average. She recorded more multi-hit games (17) than any other Eagle during the season and had a program-record 30-game hit streak.
