No. 9 Women’s Lacrosse Dominant in 19-10 Win Over No. 21 Florida Tech

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – No. 9 Embry-Riddle women's lacrosse had four different players record a hat-trick against Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon, with the team combining for 19 goals. The Eagles controlled 20 of the 30 draws in the game, turning those extra possession into a 35-23 shot advantage. ERAU went on a 7-2 run in the first quarter, along with scoring nine of the first 10 goals in the second half, leading the game by as many as 11 in the final minutes of play.

GAME NOTES
  • Embry-Riddle remained ranked No. 9 in the most recent IWLCA Division II national poll (Feb. 16).
  • The Eagles now lead the all-time series 8-1 over the Panthers, winning each of the last eight matchups.
  • Since the start of last season, ERAU is 4-0 against Florida Tech and is averaging 19.25 goals per game.
  • The Blue and Gold improved to 8-0 at home under Head Coach Christina Nikolai with the win today.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • Florida Tech scored the opening goal just 30 seconds into play, as Gillian Craig finished a feed from Sophia Scichilone. The duo would go on to combine for nine of the Panthers' 14 points.
  • Eliana Enners and Ashley Albert responded with back-to-back free-position goals in a two-minute span, giving the Eagles their first lead of the afternoon.
  • Scichilone tied the game at 2-2 with 7:23 left in the opening quarter after a green card against Embry-Riddle.
  • ERAU began to pull away by controlling the draw and scoring three goals in a 90-second stretch. Callison Foreman, Enners, and Ava Rogala each found the back of the net, extending the lead to 5-2 with 4:38 left in the first quarter.
  • After a goal from the Panthers, Natalie Jansky restored the Eagles' three-goal lead when she found the back of the net in the final 30 seconds.
Second Quarter
  • Enners would finish her hat-trick less than a minute into the second quarter, with each of her first three goals coming without an assist.
  • After a busy first quarter with nine goals, the game would start to slow down in the second, with just six goals between the teams. Abby Cudzilo cut the Eagles' lead to 7-4 a little over five minutes into the period.
  • Caitlin Gavin and Jordan Davis provided immediate answers to Cudzilo's goal, each netting their first goals of the season to push ERAU's advantage to 9-4 with four minutes remaining in the half.
  • Craig added two late goals for Florida Tech before the break, cutting Embry-Riddle's lead down to 9-6 heading into halftime.
Third Quarter
  • The Blue and Gold controlled the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 7-1 and holding Florida Tech scoreless for the first 10 minutes of the half.
  • Ashley Albert opened the scoring in the period, collecting the rebound from her initial shot and converting on the second chance opportunity.
  • Florida Tech was assessed two green cards in a 30-second span, and Leah Coletti capitalized with a goal off an assist from Foreman to make it 11-6.
  • After Embry-Riddle received a green card at the 7:33 mark, the Eagles still managed to score while a player down, as Foreman found the back of the net.
  • Scichilone scored her second goal of the game, cutting their deficit to 12-7, drawing a timeout from ERAU.
  • Out of the timeout, Embry-Riddle continued to dominate the draw. Florida Tech did not register a shot in the final five minutes of the quarter, while the Eagles scored four times to extend the lead to 16-7 heading into the fourth.
  • Highlighting the late surge was Gavin, who completed her hat trick with two goals in a 60-second span.
Fourth Quarter
  • Enners picked up her fifth and final goal of the game when she put the Eagles up by double-digits at the beginning of the quarter.
  • Rogala extended the advantage to 18-7 with ERAU's second woman-up goal of the day at the 12:29 mark.
  • After more than 10 minutes without a shot, Phoebe Hurt scored for the Panthers with 9:31 remaining in the game.
  • Florida Tech added its second woman-up goal of the contest on a score by Clare McGuire, cutting the deficit to 18-9 in a physical matchup that featured 23 fouls and 10 cards.
  • Both teams found the back of the net in the closing minutes, as Embry-Riddle secured a 19-10 victory after leading for more than 55 of the 60 minutes of play.

INSIDE THE STATS
  • The 19 goals that the Eagles scored against Florida Tech is the most they have given up this season. 
  • Ella-Rae Cox made six saves in the third quarter alone, finishing the game with 10 total saves and a .500 save percentage.
  • ERAU were successful on 14 of their 15 clearances, while forcing Florida Tech to go 11-for-17 when trying to clear.
  • Embry-Riddle picked up more ground balls than the Panthers in all four quarters, finishing with a 23-16 advantage.

UP NEXT
The Eagles will play their first road game of the 2026 season when they travel to Montevallo, Alabama. Embry-Riddle will play the Falcons on Friday, February 27. Montevallo is 1-3 to begin their season, but have only lost each of their last two games by one goal.
