Men’s Rowing Has Historic Performance At SIRA Championships

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Embry-Riddle men's rowing finished off their best all-time performance at the SIRA Championships with a podium finish in each of their first eight races of the weekend. Three of their four boats qualified for the A Final while the V4+ earned a runner-up finish in the B Final of its competition.

The F/N4+ boat advanced to the semifinals after a strong opening performance, finishing second in their first race of the weekend with a time of 7:33.045. The Eagles followed that up with another runner-up finish in Saturday afternoon's race, crossing the line more than 20 seconds ahead of the next closest competitor to secure a spot in Sunday's A Final. In the final race, the Blue and Gold placed third, recording a time of 7:22.635.

ERAU continued to find success in the 2V8+ competition as they opened with a 6:18.036 finish in the group's first race, crossing the line ahead of both Clemson and Virginia Tech. In the semifinals, Embry-Riddle crossed the line in third-place, advancing to the A Final as a wildcard after posting the fastest time among all third-place finishers.. Once in the championship race, the 2V8+ had their best time of the weekend at 6:16.229, earning a top-five finish.

For the V4+ crew, they claimed the only win of the weekend for the Blue and Gold when they finished at 7:25.430 in their qualifying heat, automatically advancing to the semifinals. In the afternoon race, ERAU finished at 7:30.181 and came up less than three seconds short of the A Final. The V4+ closed out their weekend with their best finish of the weekend at 7:04.340, enough to finish as the runner-up. 

The experienced V8+ crew turned in a consistent showing on Saturday with a pair of second-place finishes, opening with a 6:06.907 in the morning session before securing a spot in the A Final with a 6:13.556 result in the afternoon. Racing in favorable conditions on Sunday, the Eagles delivered their top performance of the weekend, breaking the six-minute mark with a time of 5:50.828.

UP NEXT
The Eagles will be off for nearly three weeks as they prepare for final exams. In the meantime, Embry-Riddle will continue to prepare for the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 8-9.
