YEAR 1 OF PROGRAM (2025-2026)
• Focus on Freshman Class as initial class of the program (pilot program)
• “Emerging Leaders” will be name for the Freshman Class
EMERGING LEADERS RETREAT
(Sun/Mon during Labor Day Weekend) – For all freshmen, which includes team building, breakout sessions and workshops to learn leadership styles (possibly through Strength Finders, Clifton, etc.)
• Build camraderie among all sports and freshmen “going through the year together” and support for each other etc.
•Start to introduce them to leadership styles, communication and how to “lead as a freshman”.
LEADERSHIP LIBRARY
• Create a Leadership Library with books student-athletes can check out or have access to that can help them with freshman year as a student athlete.
• Michelle Carter offered to donate all her books about Vince Carter (his leadership, freshman year as an athlete etc.) and various other books. Emerging leaders can start book clubs and set meetings to chat about the book etc.
FALL 2025 (FRESHMEN)
Meet during “Student-Athlete Orientation” where relevant items for first year student-athletes are discussed. Possible discussion topics include:
• Pride of being an Eagle
• Time management
• Athletics department resources
• Meet administration staff
• Confidence building
SPRING 2026 (FRESHMEN)
Conduct workshop with panel of senior captains from other teams
• What they learned their freshman year
• Patience, keeping their confidence, how to communicate with coaches, parents, teammates etc.
• Give feedback and advice to freshman from a senior perspective
YEAR 1 (2025-2026) - UPPERCLASSMEN
TEAM CAPTAINS FROM EVERY TEAM
• No freshmen unless they are elected a captain.
FALL 2025
Have speaker and one workshop in Sept/Oct/Nov (pick two of these months to do a speaker and a workshop). For example, in October, a speaker comes in and talks about a selected topic, then in November, there is a workshop on the same topic or a follow-up topic.
SPRING 2026
Have one speaker and one Workshop in Feb/ March/April (same timeline/set up as the Fall).
All Captains attend the SGA Leadership Summit on campus.
•This is a great way to have student-athletes interact with students on campus.
