FROSTPROOF, Fla. -- The Webber International women's volleyball team fought off a game Embry-Riddle squad narrowly defeating the Eagles 3-1 (30-27, 29-31, 31-29, 31-29) to halt a 17-match losing skid dating back to Oct 28, 1995 - the last Webber victory in the first year of the ERU program.
Embry-Riddle (2-13, 1-6 in FSC)?battled very gamely throughout the match tying things up at one game apiece with a 31-29 victory in game two and then?could have?had things easily go the other directions?falling by 31-29 margins in the final two games to suffer the loss.
The Eagles senior duo of Sue Delahanty and Noela Tola did all they could to earn the victory combining for 43 of ERU's 55 total kills on the evening, while Delahanty added a match-high 21 digs and Tola recorded 16 digs.
Three Webber International (2-12, 2-2 in FSC) players posted double-figures in kills led by senior Kelly Doumas with 17, while Erica Birch and Jenny Womble added 16 and 12 kills, respectively.
The Eagles continue a difficult road swing with four matches in three days travelling to St. Thomason Friday at 7 p.m., then on Saturday the Blue and Gold face Florida Memorial at noon and Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) at 7 p.m.? in West Palm Beach, Fla. at the Palm Beach Atlantic Greene Complex, before closing out the road trip against NCAA Division II Lynn on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Boca Raton, Fla.
