Strong Middle Blocking Attack and Passing the Difference in ERAU Volleyball's 3-1 Victory at Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. - Led by the combination of a strong outside and middle blocking attack, the Embry-Riddle women's volleyball team recorded a critical 3-1 victory (30-26, 22-30, 30-22, 30-26) against Webber International (Fla.) Friday night to maintain third-place in the Florida Sun Conference.

The victory was the first in three attempts against the Warriors who defeated ERAU 3-2 in the first two meetings.

"It was a great effort from passing, to our block and our serve," ERAU head coach #Joslynn Gallop# said. "We are back on track and it's nice to pick up a tough hard-fought road victory, especially against a team we had lost to twice."

Getting the middle blockers more involved in the attack was a critical part of the game strategy for Gallop.

Sophomore middles #Jennifer MacRae# and #Ashell Curtiss# responded with 12 and 7 kills, respectively, while outside hitter #Janelle Marinos# recorded 20 kills to lead all players.? MacRae finished the match hitting .600, while Curtiss hit .250.

Freshman #Jenni Nelsen# added 10?kills and hit .286 for the match, but?recorded six?service aces and added 10 digs.? #Daniela Brazolino# led all Eagles with 17 digs and #Nancy Salb# added 16.? ERAU freshman setter #Marissa Gonzales# registered 46 assists, two service aces and 10 digs in the match.

"We took huge steps in the right direction this evening with our passing and our involvement of our middles," Gallop said. "Both middles were huge and we just have to keep doing that and we will be hard to beat."

Webber International (22-5, 5-4 FSC)?was paced by Leah Merrique and Jenny Womble with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.? The Warriors attack struggled in game two hitting just .074, while?the?final game?saw them?post their?worst effort of the evening?with 11 kills and 10 errors in 43 attempts for a .023 percentage.

The Eagles improve to 19-7 overall and 5-2 in the FSC and will close out the weekend at Warner Southern (Fla.) on Saturday at 12 p.m.
