DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --?The Embry-Riddle University women's volleyball team hit .364 and limited Florida Memorial University to just .012 hitting en route to a 3-0 (30-12, 30-11, 30-20) Florida Sun Conference victory Saturday afternoon at the ICI Center.
With the victory, the Eagles clinch a berth into the NAIA Region XIV tournament which will be hosted by Flagler College on Nov. 11-12 in St.?Augustine.? With three league matches left, Embry-Riddle stands at third in the FSC with an 8-3 mark and 22-9 overall just ahead of Webber International at 6-5 in the FSC and 25-6 overall.
Flagler and Savannah College of Art and Design?currently share first-place in the league?at ?10-1, but the Saints defeated SCAD?in the first meeting?in St. Augustine.? Flagler and SCAD end regular-season play in Savannah on Nov. 2.??
Five Eagles hit better than .300 for the match led by Nancy Salb (Boise, Idaho) who recorded five kills in the final game hitting .714, while Janelle Marinos (Three Rivers, Calif.) paced the team with 14 kills and hit?.357 for the match.??? Salb also added a match-high 11 digs to lead the Eagles.
Ashell Curtiss (Libby, Mont.) continued her strong play in the middle for ERAU with 11 kills and a .308 hitting percentage.? Daniela Brazolino (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Jennie Nelsen (Titusville, Fla.) contributed six kills apiece, hitting .462 and .286, respectively.?
Marissa Gonzales led the Eagles with 38 assists and added three kills and two service aces.
Florida Memorial senior?Shakkia Plowden did all she could to keep the Lions within striking distance leading the team with 12 kills and hit .161 for the match.
Embry-Riddle returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Savannah, Ga.?with hopes spoiling
