SCAD Volleyball Prevails 3-0 Against Embry-Riddle

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Savannah College of Art and Design volleyball team used a balanced attack with only one player?posting 10 kills and recorded 16 block assists to defeat?Embry-Riddle University 3-0 (30-20, 30-25, 30-20) at the St. Paul's Activity Center Tuesday evening.

The victory helped the Bees (20-8 overall) secure a share of first in the Florida Sun Conference with Flagler College at 11-1 and sets up a battle with the Saints to take the?regular-season title on Nov. 2 in Savannah.??Flagler defeated SCAD in the first meeting 3-1 in St. Augustine.

SCAD and Embry-Riddle (22-10, 8-4 FSC)?battled to a 15-15 tie in the first game, but the Bees outscored ERAU 15-5 to post the 30-20 victory.?? Cristina Payne and Katie Richardson recorded four kills apiece in the game and two kills apiece in the final five points of the game.

The Bees jumped out to a 15-3 lead in the second game behind the strong serve of Payne who recorded two aces and two kills.? Embry-Riddle did close the?deficit to 27-23 and looked as though they would cut it to a three-point advantage, but a Frida Sigurdardottir's tip just fell inside the line to give SCAD a 28-23 lead.??The teams traded?attack errors and then the Eagles commited a service error to end the game 30-25.

The final game was just like the second with SCAD building a large lead early 18-9 behind four service aces, four kills from Richardson and three from Sigurdardottir in the run.? The Bees' lead was too much for ERAU to?overcome, especially after the Eagles comeback attempt in the second game.? Sigurdardottir led SCAD with 10 kills, while Payne and Richardson each finished with nine kills.

Janelle Marinos led the Eagles with 18 kills and a .267 hitting percentage and Daniela Brazolino added 10 kills for ERAU, while?Nancy Salb recorded 14?digs and?Jenni Nelsen added 10.
