DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Embry-Riddle University first-year head coach Joslynn Gallop recorded her first coaching victory defeating Edward Waters (Fla.) 30-9, 30-4, 30-5 in the Eagles home opener at the ICI Center Wednesday night.
The victory also snapped the Eagles 16-game losing skid dating back to Oct. 9, 2004 when ERAU defeated Florida Memorial 3-0.
Edward Waters (0-3) opened the match tying the Blue and Gold at 5-5, but Embry-Riddle (1-1) went on a 25-4 run to close out the game 30-9.? ERAU was never really challenged the rest of the match cruising to 30-4 and 30-5 decisions in games two and three.
The most decisive area of the evening was with the Eagles serve as they recorded the all-time record for service aces in a match with 42 and in a three-game match shattering the old mark of 24 set on Sept. 26, 1995 against Trinity Baptist.? Embry-Riddle's individual match record was also set by junior Janelle Marinos (Three Rivers, Calif.), who registered 19 services aces eclipsing the previous record set by Heather Burnett vs. Florida Christian (Oct. 5, 1996). Marinos led the Eagles with nine kills and Daniela Brazolino (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) added eight kills.
Freshman setter Marissa Gonzales (Littleton, Colo.) recorded 18 assists and finished with 10 services aces.
