JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle women's volleyball team hit .537 recording 41 kills on 67 attempts to prevail 3-0 (30-6, 30-7, 30-10) against Edward Waters (Fla.) completing the season series sweep.
The Eagles (10-3 overall) opened the first game scoring 11 of the first 12 points and finished the game hitting .682 as a team winning 30-6 behind five kills apiece from #Janelle Marinos# (Three Rivers, Calif.) and #Daniela Brazolino# (Belo Horizonte, Brazil).?? Marinos added five of her match-high 15 service aces and closed out the match with 12 kills hitting .625.??Brazolino hit .833 in the first game and hit a team-high .714 recording 10 kills for the match.
The?decisive victory allowed?ERAU the chance to play many players as #Marissa Gonzales# (Littleton, Colo.) and #Julee Carver# (Sellersburg ,Ind.) split time?in the setting role.? Gonzales finished with 24 assists, while Carver recorded 13 and added four service aces playing half of game two and all of the third game.
All three defensive specialists saw action at the libero spot with #Nancy Salb# (Boise, Idaho)?starting game one and then played?outside hitter in the second and third recording five kills and hit .625.? #Marcia Bullara-Smith# (Oak Hill, Fla.)?recorded two service aces in the second game and then freshman #Amanda Meller# (Eden, N.Y.) played the third game recording four service aces.
There were limited opportunities for Eagle digs since Edward Waters attempted just 26 total attacks with 10 errors and five kills.?
Middle blocker #Ashell Curtiss# (Libby, Mont.) added five kills and?a .500 hitting percentage, while #Jenni Nelsen# (Titusville, Fla.) finished the match with four kills and a .500 hitting percentage.? Junior middle #Mia Jaramillo# (Manizales, Colombia) recorded two kills and three total blocks, while #Jennifer MacRae# (Homosassa, Fla.) returned to the lineup after sitting out the last 11 matches to?post two kills and block assist.
The Eagles return to action this weekend when they head to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish Classic Friday and Saturday Sept. 23-24.??
