JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2009 season, falling 6-1 to NCAA Division I Jacksonville on Thursday. The Dolphins won the doubles point and five of six singles to improve their overall record to 3-1 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 2-1 with the loss.
Doubles play saw Sara Abraul and Marga Rico Jimenez fall to Virginia Iwinski and Iva Jaresova 8-2 and No. 3 and Hana Im and Mathilda Engstrom fall to Juliana Umeki and Fernanda Carrero, 8-5. Natasa Zoricic and Julija Stojkovska battled hard at No. 1 doubles, but were unable to getting Tatiana Soldatova and Elvira Yuspova who took the match 8-6.
Abraul scored the only point for the Blue and Gold, downing Carrero 3-6, 6-2, 10-7.
The Eagles take a two-game road trip to Savannah, Ga. next week, taking on Armstrong Atlantic at 3 p.m. on Feb. 20 and Savannah College of Art and Design at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21.
