DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle Eagles are in their 25th year of intercollegiate competition and on Tuesday night hosted a squad in their very first regular season campaign. The Eagles had no problem with DeVry (Miramar, Fla.), handing the Skyhawks a 97-39 setback in the ICI Center. The Blue and Gold moves to 3-1 while DeVry slips to 0-6.
Tuesday evening saw a different starting lineup for the Eagles with
Ben Redfield,
Jeremiah Applin,
Billy Serle,
Brandon Serle and
Sam Ford getting the nod from Head Coach
Steve Ridder. Applin and Redfield paced the Eagle squad with 14 points each, while
Jason Powell and
DeForest Carter both came off the bench to reach double-figures with 11 and 12, respectively.
Embry-Riddle sprinted out to a 52-21 lead at halftime, shooting 51 percent from the floor and 44 percent from three-point land, making eight in the opening frame.
The Eagles only improved their shooting clip in the second half, moving to 61 percent from the field and 46 percent from beyond the arc. Redfield was a perfect 5-for-5, including four three-balls to lead the Blue and Gold en route to his career-high point total.
Ford fell one point shy of a double-double, tallying nine points and 10 rebounds on the night, while
Daniel Kiesling claimed eight boards and Powell grabbed seven. Embry-Riddle outrebounded the Skyhawks by 21 (45-24), including a 15-7 advantage in offensive rebounds.
Walter Marr led DeVry with 13 points and Leonard Jackson chipped in six points and pulled down eight rebounds.
The Eagles embark on their first road trip of the 2012-13 season this weekend, as they travel to Helena, Mont. to take part in the Carroll College Classic. The Eagles play Friday night at 5:30 p.m. (MST) and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. (MST) against Montana Tech and host Carroll respectively.
