ERAU Women’s Tennis Handles Oklahoma Baptist 9-0

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team posted a dominant performance on the way to the Eagles' 12th win of the season on Monday. The Blue and Gold yielded just four games in doubles play and swept through singles to top Oklahoma Baptist (5-3) 9-0 at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
 
It took No. 22 Kristina Marova and Paola Montero just over 30 minutes to earn an 8-0 shutout over Shawna Beach and Emily Wilson at No. 3 doubles. Playing together for the first time, senior Ekaterina Kamendova and freshman Giovanna Tomiotto notched an 8-2 win over Maria Rosa and Elisa Brito at the second spot and sixth-ranked Yi Ching Chen and Josefine Strom completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over 11th-ranked Paola Costa and Lili Ferreira at No. 1.
 
Playing at No. 3 singles for the first time this season, Marova was the first to finish her match, topping Rosa 6-1, 6-0. Strom and Montero bested their respective opponents by the same 6-1, 6-0 score with Strom downing Lord to score the clincher and Montero defeating Beach.
 
Ranked sixth in the NAIA, Chen had the upper hand against 24th-ranked Costa with a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court one. NAIA No. 15 Kamendova also moved up a spot in the lineup on Monday and earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over No. 31 Ferreira at the second position.
 
The Eagles' final point came at No. 6 singles where Tomiotto earned her first collegiate singles win with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Wilson.
 
The Eagles will take on NAIA No. 9 Southern Nazarene at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
