Matt Jacobs finished the weekend series 7-for-12 with three RBIs.
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The NAIA No. 7 Embry-Riddle Eagles made program history on Saturday, completing a series sweep of 21st-ranked University of South Carolina Beaufort for the first time in five season series. The Eagles won the first game of Saturday's doubleheader 6-3 before taking the series finale 5-1. Embry-Riddle (9-1, 6-0) allowed the Sand Sharks (3-7, 1-5) to score just four runs over the series' three games.

Game 1
The Eagles struck quickly in the first two innings of Saturday's opener and added a few insurance runs late to claim the 6-3 victory. Chad Modomo surrendered just four hits and one earned run over 7.1 innings to earn his second win of the season, while the Eagles got three hits from Matt Jacobs and three RBIs from Kyle Chastain at the dish.

The Blue and Gold got to USCB starter Hunter Englehart right away as Jordan Johnson led off the game with a single and moved around the diamond before scoring on Chastain's sacrifice fly. Jeff Lemon plated Tyler Robbins a few batters later with a single through the right side of the infield, giving ERAU a 2-0 lead.

After Modomo struck out two batters in a 1-2-3 bottom of the first Adam Cellini drew a leadoff walk before his courtesy runner, Connor Williams, moved to second on a sac bunt before stealing third. Chastain picked up his second RBI with an infield single, pushing the Eagle lead to 3-0.

The Sand Sharks scored their first runs of the series in the bottom of the third, plating a pair of unearned runs to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Modomo kept the Sand Sharks from tying the game with three strikeouts over the next two frames.

Jacobs recorded a RBI single in the fifth, plating Kevin Lindheim and Modomo allowed just one base runner from the fourth through seventh innings.

USCB knocked Modomo out of the game in the eighth, but Eric Green shut the door on the Sand Sharks after they scored one run in the frame to cut the Eagle lead to 4-3. Green got the final two outs of the eighth to end the threat and send the Eagles back to the plate.

Andrew Barrineau relieved Englehart to begin the ninth and the Eagles chipped on two insurance runs thanks to Chastain and Lindheim.

Green gave up a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth but got the next three batters without any problem, securing the win and his second save of the year.

Game 2
Embry-Riddle sent reigning Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week Stetson Nelson to the mound to try to complete the sweep of USCB, and the sophomore came through with his second consecutive quality outing, holding the hosts to six hits and one run over 8.1 innings of work. The Blue and Gold pounded out 13 hits and despite stranding nine base runners, never looked to be in trouble, breezing to a 5-1 victory in the get-away game.

For the first time in the series the Eagles failed to score In the opening inning, but made up for it with a pair of runs in the second, one coming on a Jacobs' double that scored Lemon and another coming when Cellini found a gap in right field, scoring Jacobs.

Nelson allowed a hit in the second but got a double play in the frame to give his team an opportunity to add to their lead, which they did when Lindheim brought home Chastain after Chastain tripled with one out.
Nelson retired six straight batters in the third and fourth and the Eagles tacked on two runs in the fifth to extend their lead to 5-0.

The Eagle starter cruised through the sixth, seventh and eighth before exiting in the ninth, giving way to Ronnie Lozada who closed out the game after the Sand Sharks plated a single run in the frame.

Nelson (2-0) pitched 8.1 innings with eight strikeouts, tying a season-high. Lindheim finished 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run and Jacobs was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Cellini also collected two hits for the Blue and Gold.

The Eagles travel to Thomasville, Ga. next weekend to take on the Thomas Night Hawks in a three-game Sun Conference series. First pitch for Friday's single game is slated for 3 p.m.
