DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Eagles played their eighth one-run game in the 2013 season and are now 6-2 in such games, 9-2 overall, after losing to the Panthers of Davenport University 7-6 on Tuesday night.

Stetson Nelson (2-1) got his fourth start for the Eagles and looked dominant in the first three frames, getting a 1-0 lead to work with when Tyler Robbins doubled in Liam Goodall from third in the bottom of the second.

The wheels came off for Nelson in the fourth as four consecutive hits led to three Panthers runs, before an error allowed the inning to continue and four more runs crossed the plate. Brian Johnson relieved Nelson and his first pitch was sent to the right field fence, clearing the bases, although he would settle in and pitch a scoreless 3.2 innings.

With a 7-1 lead, Davenport starter Michael Clutterbuck (2-1) settled in and allowed just one more run over the next three innings, leaving before the bottom of the seventh, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out two in six innings of work.

Garrett Lovik replaced Clutterbuck and didn't record an out as Jordan Johnson singled and a walk to Adam Cellini put two on with none out. Kyle Chastain deliverd an RBI single to right field and Kevin Lindheim delivered a two RBI double to right field, scoring Chastain and courtesy runner Connor Williams, advancing to third on the throw home.

Ryan Butzer relieved Lovik to face Jeff Lemon who drove home Lindheim with a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing the score to 7-6, Panthers.

Unfortunately, that was as close as the Eagles would come as Butzer pitched a hitless 2.2 innings and got the save for the Panthers.

Nelson was tagged with the loss as he had his shortest outing of the season tossing 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs, three earned, on 10 hits while striking out two and walking none. The bullpen was solid for the Blue and Gold as Johnson and Eric Green combined to allow just three hits and struck out eight over the final five innings.

Robbins and Goodall each finished with two hits apiece, while Lindheim finished 1-for-4 with two RBI's and two runs.

Clutterbuck tossed six solid innings, allowing two runs on six hits, walking three and striking out two. Lovik allows four runs on three hits and Butzer threw a perfect three innings for the save.

The Eagles first pitch against Warner on Friday, Mar. 1 is slated for 6 p.m.
