KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the third time in program history, an Embry-Riddle women's tennis player was selected as the National Player of the Week by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, as
Hui-I Huang garnered the honor on Wednesday.
A freshman from Changhua, Taiwan, Huang became eligible for national consideration after being named The Sun Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday following her performance during the week ending Mar. 24. Her first game of the week saw Huang, ranked 41st in the ITA/NAIA national singles poll, register a 6-4, 6-1 upset of sixth-ranked Anastasyia Baranova from Oklahoma Baptist. Two days later, Huang notched her 11th win of the season with a 6-1, 6-4 defeat over Maxie Weinberg of NCAA I University of Connecticut.
Huang also teamed up with
Kristina Marova for a 2-0 record in doubles play as the tandem topped OBU's Baranova and Lilian Ferreira 8-6 and closed out the week with an 8-5 decision against UConn's Lucy Nutting and Abby McKeon.
Huang and the seventh-ranked Eagles return to action at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday when they take on Xavier (La.) at ERAU's Crotty Tennis Complex.
