FORT MYERS, Fla. - A Jordan Romero RBI double in the third inning was all the sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle Eagles needed in a 24-hour game in the 2013 Sun Conference Baseball Tournament on Wednesday/Thursday. The Eagles (41-13) eliminated the Gyrenes (37-19), 1-0 after rain delayed the game in the top of the seventh inning, forcing the game until Thursday evening where Jon Rapose entered and allowed just one hit in a three-inning save.

Embry-Riddle advances to Friday where they will play the loser of Webber International and Southeastern at 4 p.m.

Kevin Maloney was nearly perfect for the Eagles on Wednesday, but needed a fantastic diving catch in left field from Liam Goodall to preserve the 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth.

With a runner at second base and two outs on the board, Aaron Pigna hit a line drive down the left field line that looked like a sure double for the Gyrene second baseman, and the tying run was sure to score from second base. Goodall fully extended and made the grab to rob Pigna of the hit and keep the Blue and Gold in front, 1-0.

Embry-Riddle got its lone run of the game, and two this point, of the tournament, in the third when Romero doubled down the left field line, scoring Tyler Robbins from first after he was hit by an Ethan Striz pitch to begin the frame.

When the game resumed in the seventh on Thursday evening, Jon Rapose was just as good as Maloney, and despite giving up a leadoff single in the first at-bat of the evening, allowed only one runner the rest of the way, and in fact, picked off that runner in the eighth inning.

Rapose faced the minimum in the visitor-half of the ninth, earning his second save of the season.
