MARION, Ind. – The Embry-Riddle Track and Field team got off to a great start at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the spring as junior
Reta Woodard captured her first title in the hammer throw.
Â
Woodard, a Spring Hill, Fla. native, took home top honors with a meet record distance of 61.67m, besting the previous mark of 61.48m set by Aubrey Baxter of Black Hills State in 2009.
"I told myself I could do it," said Woodard. "I came close last year and I knew I had what it took. I wanted to set the tone for my team and get everyone pumped up for the meet and I think I did just that. It was great to be able to celebrate with my coaches and teammates and I hope that the success spreads throughout the team."
It was the second title for Woodard who captured the 2012 NAIA Weight Throw crown.
