Five @ERAUBaseball Players to Participate in 2014 Sun Conference All-Star Game

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The 2014 will have its unofficial kickoff this Saturday when Webber International's Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center Field plays hots to The Sun Conference All-Star Game at 1 p.m. The Sun Conference All-Star Game will feature 52 of the league's best players and will include members of all 10 of the conference's baseball-sponsoring schools. The game is a showcase for scouts and fans alike to get a look at one of the premier baseball conferences in the NAIA.

Nine All-Conference selections from 2013 and seven All-Star Game participants from a year ago will play in Saturday's contest. The conference will be split into two teams, with Embry-Riddle, Southeastern, Thomas (Ga.), University of South Carolina Beaufort and Webber International making up the North squad and the South team having members from Ave Maria, Florida Memorial, Northwood, St. Thomas and Warner.

Last season, the South avenged a shutout in 2012 by registering a 7-4 win over the North in Daytona Beach at Embry-Riddle's Sliwa Stadium. In 2012, the North posted a 4-0 victory, while the South won the 2011 contest, 11-6. The 2010 contest finished in a 5-5 tie.

Participating for the Eagles will be Tyler Cyr, Darryl Knight, Kevin Lindheim, Stetson Nelson and Daniel Poncedeleon.

Cyr is a sophomore transfer from Fremont, Calif. after throwing 35.0 innings with 31 strikeouts for Skyline College in 2012. Cyr is a 6-3, 195 lb. right-handed pitcher.

Replacing three-year starter Adam Cellini behind the dish, Knight comes to Embry-Riddle after two seasons at Seminole State College. The 6-2, 220 lb. junior is from Orlando, Fla. and earned the Mack Blythe Award at SSC as the school's Outstanding Freshman Athlete in 2012. Knight collected 74 hits, 13 home runs and 61 RBIs in two seasons at SSC.

A 2013 first team All-Sun Conference selection, Lindheim is one of four returning position players for Embry-Riddle. Lindheim was the league's Gold Glove honoree in right field while hitting .339 on 80 hits. The Naples, Fla. native led the conference with 54 RBIs and collected 15 doubles and four home runs while scoring 44 times as a junior. Lindheim is a 6-1, 210 lb. utility player.

Nelson put together an outstanding sophomore season for the Eagles in 2013, earning honorable mention All-America accolades, first team All-Conference honors and claimed the Gold Glove award in The Sun Conference at the pitcher position. Nelson went 8-2 with a 2.21 ERA in 19 appearances, throwing 122.1 innings and fanning 103 batters. Nelson is a 6-2, 195 lb. left-handed junior.

Senior transfer Poncedeleon comes to Embry-Riddle from the University of Houston and is a three-time MLB draftee. The La Mirada, Calif. native went 7-5 with a 4.47 ERA for the Cougars in 2013 before being drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 14th round.

The Eagles open the 2014 season at Webber International on Feb. 1.
