No. 7 @ERAUMBasketball Earns First Conference Win with 67-56 Victory at Webber International

BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle men's basketball team, fresh off their new No. 7 ranking in the NAIA II Coaches' Poll, took to the road on Wednesday and took care of business, downing Webber International, 67-56 to move to 9-0 overall and 1-0 in The Sun Conference. The Warriors (0-8, 0-1) made it a game in the second half, despite falling behind by as many as 21 with 10 minutes left, but ultimately couldn't overcome 16 turnovers in the loss.

Cesar Pastrana registered his third straight double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, in the process, becoming the 28th member of the Embry-Riddle 1,000-Point Club. Dalton Barnes led all scorers with 16 on 8-of-11 shooting, incuding 10 points in the second period.

After Dewaine Lyals scored the game's first points with a layup at the 18:32 mark, the Eagles sprinted out to a 24-6 lead, a run that included three-pointers from Reed Ridder, Daniel Kiesling and Jason Powell, as well as four points each from Pastrana, Barnes and Joseph Gonzalez.

McDonald Jean-Louis finally stopped the bleeding with a layup at the 9:11 mark, and the Warriors slowly crept back into the contest, trimming the lead to 28-14 with 50 seconds left before Barnes got a jumper in the paint, but Nathaniel Morrell ended the half with a three to account for the 30-17 halftime score.

The second half started out fairly equally as the Eagles maintained a 10-point lead through the first four minutes, but starting with a DeForest Carter layup from a nice give-and-go between him and Pastrana, the Eagles went on an 18-7 run to go up 53-32 when Hudson Cadet converted on a hook shot in the paint with 10:25 remaining in regulation.

Webber International answered the Eagle run with one of its own, holding the Blue and Gold scoreless for three minutes, cutting the deficit to 53-42 with 7:38 on the clock.

Pastrana put the Eagles up 59-46 with a layup under five minutes, but a pair of Jean-Louis triples brought the hosts within eight at 60-52 at the 3:13 mark.

Barnes scored the next four points and the Eagle defense held firm as the Eagles maintained a double-digit advantage the rest of the night with three Carter free throws in the last minute sealing ERAU's 43rd all-time win against WIU.

The Eagles shot 45 percent for the game, recording 16 assists, led by Carter's eight, while Webber International owned the rebounding battle with a slim, 34-33 margin.

ERAU returns home for its final game before the holiday break, hosting Alice Lloyd on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in the ICI Center.
