Darryl Knight started a two-out rally in the fourth with a double down the left field line as the Eagles went on to score three runs in the frame.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The third-ranked Embry-Riddle Eagles got all their scoring done in the fourth inning before holding on for a 3-2 win over visiting Davenport on Tuesday night at Sliwa Stadium. The Eagles improved to 7-7 with the win while the Panthers fell to 5-2 in 2014. A trio of Eagle pitchers combined for a three-hitter against DU, striking out 11 Panther batters while the Blue and Gold offense collected nine hits, including five in the three-run fourth to emerge with the one-run victory.
Tyler Cyr made his first start as an Eagle, and early on proved to be too much for the Panther batters, not allowing a hit until the third inning. The California native was matched by Anthony Alarcon for Davenport who was also making his first start, facing the minimum through two frames.
Davenport got on the board in the third when Zach Wilson singled in Tyler Baratono from second after the DU shortstop struckout, but reached first on a wild pitch, moving to second on a groundout. Cyr struck out Brendan Bender to end the third for his fourth punchout of the evening.
Neither team threatened in their next at-bats, but the Eagles jumped on Alarcon in the fourth, starting with a two-out double from
Darryl Knight.
J Rhet Montana beat out an infield single to keep the inning alive, putting runners on the corners, before
Hunter Bruehl tied things up with a single to right, scoring Knight's courtesy runner
Connor Williams.
Jordan Johnson kept the rally going with a check-swing single through the right side, scoring Montana, before
Jake Cavender accounted for the winning run with a double to right center, plating Bruehl.
Cyr exited the game in the fifth with a runner on second, giving way to
David Lidyard with one out. An Eagle throwing error pushed across the second Panther run of the night before Lidyard got a flyout and Knight cut down Connor Seymour at second trying to steal.
The two teams combined to go 1-for-6 on the bases, including a pair of Eagles caught at second in the home-half of the fifth.
Lidyard stranded a pair in the sixth and the new Panther pitcher, Ryan Butzer worked perfectly through the last of the sixth.
Seymour made two great defensive plays at third base in the Eagle seventh to keep the Blue and Gold off the bases and the Panthers put up their last threat in the eighth, putting two on with two outs before Lidyard was relieved by
Ronnie Lozada. Lozada struck out EJ Grochowalski on a 2-2 pitch to leave the baserunners on the bases before delivering a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth to preserve the 3-2 win and earn his second save of the year.
Lidyard (2-0) got the win for the Eagles, throwing 3.1 innings of relief of Cyr who tossed 4.1 innings, allowing two hits.
Cavender finished 2-for-3 with an RBI while
Kevin Lindheim went 2-for-4 and Bruehl collected a run, hit and RBI for the Eagles.
