LEBANON, Tenn. - David Lidyard was dominant in his first start of the 2014 season, holding the No. 10 Cumberland Bulldogs to just four hits as the Eagles managed a split with the Bulldogs in Tennessee. The Eagles (19-13) scored twice in the fourth and Lidyard did the rest. Cumberland dropped to 18-12 overall.

Kevin Lindheim and Darryl Knight each collected two-out hits, including a double off the bat of Knight, but Jake Collier got a 6-3 groundout to end the Eagle threat in the top of the first.

David Lidyard similarly got out of the first for the Eagles when he got a double play with runners on the corners to send the game to the second inning scoreless, throwing just five pitches in the frame.

Both starters breezed through the second and third innings, but Collier ran into some trouble in the fourth when an error allowed Knight to reach first and after a groundout moved his courtesy runner, Logan Bailey, to second, Liam Goodall tripled to right center to give the Eagles their first lead of the week at 1-0. A wild pitch by Collier chased in Goodall for a 2-0 Embry-Riddle advantgage before Collier got out of the inning with a groundout.

Lidyard worked around a base hit and a hit by pitch in the last of the fourth to keep his shutout alive, and although Kyle Chastain reached as the leadoff batter in the fifth, Collier retired the next three Eagles in order.

Justin Byrd collected his second double of the afternoon with two outs in the fifth, but again Lidyard was able to minimize the damage by inducing a shallow fly ball to left as the game moved to the sixth inning.

Eagles wasted an opportunity in the top of the sixth after getting their first two batters on board, but a failed sacrifice bunt attempt and two fly outs kept the Blue and Gold off the scoreboard for the fifth time in six innings.

The top of the seventh held some excitement at the plate as Jake Cavender was thrown out at home on a one-out double from Lindheim, keeping the score at 2-0. Knight was intentionally walked before Jordan Johnson grounded out to end the inning.

Lidyard breezed through the Cumberland seventh, punctuating the game with a strikeout for the final out of the contest.

Lidyard (4-1) tossed 7.0 innings, allowing four hits with no walks and two Ks. Goodall went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Blue and Gold.

ERAU's next game is Wednesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. (CT) at Columbia, Ky. against No. 15 Lindsey-Wilson.
