Sarah Huey went 4-for-7 with a double, triple, stolen base, five runs scored and two RBIs in Saturday's doubleheader
LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle softball team continued its winning ways on Saturday, sweeping Warner on the road by scores of 5-1 and 6-1. The Eagles are now 14-11 on the season and 4-0 in conference, while the Royals fall to 8-12 overall and 0-2 in TSC play.
Game 1 – ERAU 5, WU 1
The Eagles got on the board first in game one thanks to a third-inning RBI bunt single from
Dee Espinosa on a squeeze play that scored
Sarah Huey, giving ERAU a 1-0 lead.
Warner tied things up in the bottom half on a Stefani Bonilla RBI double, scoring Darier Malone.
Embry-Riddle took a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a three-run home run off the bat of Espinosa that cleared the center-field fence with ease.
Jessica Osteen doubled home
Ariel Brayer to give ERAU an insurance run in the sixth, increasing the lead to 6-1, which would prove to be the final score.
Robi Zimmerman (6-6) got the complete game victory, allowing one run on five hits, walking none and striking out three.
Espinosa was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Huey was 2-for-3 with a walk, stolen base and two runs scored.
Chelsie Valentine (4-3) took the complete game loss, giving up five runs on eight hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Bonilla went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI and Malone was 1-for-2 with a run scored for the Royals.
Game 2 – ERAU 6, WU 1
The Blue and Gold opened game two with a pair of runs in the first, scoring just seven pitches into the game. Huey led off with a double and
Talia Barraco bunted her over to third, but the third baseman threw the ball down the right-field line, allowing Huey to score. Three batters later, Osteen singled up the middle to score Espinosa, making it 2-0.
After the Royals picked up a run in the second, ERAU regained its two-run lead on an Espinosa single that allowed Huey to score.
Huey helped build the lead to 5-1 with a two-run triple in the fourth, and Barraco followed with a double on the next pitch, scoring Huey to make it a 6-1 ballgame.
Neither side was able to dent the scoreboard for the rest of the game, giving ERAU a 6-1 lead and a doubleheader sweep.
Alexis Estrada (8-5) got the complete game victory, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Huey was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored.
Anna Battison was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, and Osteen was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
Hayley Padgett (0-5) was tagged with the loss, going four innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on 10 hits without recording a walk or a strikeout.
Bonilla was 2-for-3 with two doubles while Shannon Cataldo finished 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI.
The Eagles return home to Daytona Beach to take on Columbia in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, March 24. First pitch for game one is set for 4 p.m.
