DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - An improbable three-run ninth inning by the third-ranked Embry-Riddle Eagles pushed Monday's game against visiting Northwestern Ohio into extra-innings, but the Racers scored a run in the very next inning to take a 5-4 decision from the Blue and Gold. The Eagles (23-14) stranded 10 runners in the game while committing three errors that allowed three unearned runs to score for the Racers (13-8).

The two teams will meet again tomorrow, March 25 at 6 p.m.

A sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th from Alex Leach scored the go-ahead run from third after UNOH had its leadoff batter reach on a two-base error before a sac bunt moved him just 90 feet from home.

The Eagles put the tying run at second and the possible winning run at first in the last of the 10th, but John Schreiber got pinch hitter Lorenzo Boden to swing and miss at strike three to end the game in favor of UNOH.

The Racers were in complete control of the game heading into the bottom of the ninth, holding a 4-1 lead over the Eagles. However, a hit and two crucial UNOH errors allowed the Blue and Gold to knot the score at 4-4 to force the game to extra-innings. Jordan Johnson walked to begin the frame, moving to second on a throwing error by the Racer pitcher Ryan Burns on a ground ball from Hunter Bruehl, allowing both runners to be safe. After Schreiber entered the game, Kyle Chastain singled to short with one out to load the bases before Liam Goodall brought in a run on an RBI groundout to second. Kevin Lindheim grounded an 0-1 pitch to short that the Racer shortstop threw into the dirt at first as Chastain and Logan Bailey both scored to tie the game at 4-4. Lindheim swiped second to put himself in scoring position, but Schreiber fanned Darryl Knight on a 1-2 pitch to keep the Racers in the game.

The Racers scored an unearned run in the first before the Eagles were able to answer in the second on a two-out RBI single from Bruehl, but neither team scored following that run until the seventh.

Both Dylan Demarest and Ruben Medina pitched well enough for their respective teams and after the Racers went in front 2-1 in the seventh, Medina was pulled in favor of Burns. UNOH scored two more runs in the eighth for a 4-1 cushion before the ninth inning rally by the Eagles.

Lozada (1-2) got the loss for the Eagles, tossing the final 3.2 innings of the game, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits with one walk. Demarest threw 4.1 innings, giving up one unearned run on four hits with four Ks and Brian Johnson pitched two relief innings, allowing one run on two hits.

Both Chastain and Jake Cavender finished 2-for-5, while Liam Goodall, Knight, J Rhet Montana, Jordan Johnson and Bruehl all collected base hits.
