DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The top-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team earned its 10th win of the 2014 campaign with an 8-1 defeat of 16th-ranked Northwestern Ohio (14-2), Tuesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 10-2 on the year and will look for their 11th win on Wednesday when they host NCAA II No. 8 St. Leo at 3 p.m.

ERAU gained an early advantage after sweeping all three doubles points. Luke de Caires and Miguel Lopez Gomez gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead with an 8-0 defeat of Michael Kock and Gabriel Cleto on court three. At No. 2 doubles, Jaime Sanchez-Canamares Rios and Patrick Besch rallied to take an 8-4 victory over Ermin Alpan and Ronnie Myburgh, and in the top-flight doubles match, top-ranked Deni Zmak and Simon Felix overcame a sluggish start to pull out a 9-7 win over the UNOH pair of Daniel Rueda and Thommy Johansson.

At No. 4 singles, Patrick Besch made quick work of Myburgh, earning a 6-1, 6-1 decision against the UNOH freshman to put the Eagles ahead, 4-0. Sanchez-Canamares notched his seventh win of the year by dispatching Johansson 6-2, 6-2 to guarantee the Eagles their 10th win of 2014.

The next match off the court was at the third position, where Felix came out on the winning end of a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Alpan. Zmak held off a late rally from Rueda, downing the Racers' top player 6-0, 7-5 for the Eagles' seventh point, and de Caires bested Kock 6-4, 6-3 on court six to cap the Eagles' scoring.

UNOH was able to avoid the shutout when Cleto topped Lopez Gomez 6-4, 6-3 at the fifth position for the Racers only point of the afternoon.
