AT A GLANCEThe 15th-ranked Embry-Riddle Eagles start the final month of the 2014 regular season this weekend against the visiting Florida Memorial Lions. ERAU needs just two victories to secure a spot in The Sun Conference Tournament, they would become the first TSC school to punch their ticket to Fort Myers.
EMBRY-RIDDLEEmbry-Riddle returns to Daytona Beach for its first Sun Conference home series since mid-March. The Eagles are looking to punch the first ticket to Fort Myers, Fla. for The Sun Conference Tournament, and need just two wins to do so.
Darryl Knight, the reigning Sun Conference Player of the Week, leads the ERAU offense with a .333 average from the plate, collecting 48 hits, 10 doubles, a triple and six home runs for 36 RBIs and a .542 slugging percentage. Three other Eagles are hitting above .300, including
Jake Cavender (.316),
Kevin Lindheim (.315) and
J Rhet Montana (.305).
On the mound, the Eagle pitching staff has continued to be one of the best in the country, posting a 2.33 ERA in 355.0 innings of work with 316 strikeouts. Friday starter
Daniel Poncedeleon is 5-1 with a 1.97 ERA and 68 Ks while Saturday probables
Stetson Nelson and
Corey Tufts are each 7-2 with 1.54 and 2.24 ERAs respectively.
SCOUTING FLORIDA MEMORIALThe Lions are 8-24 overall entering Thursday's games against Lindenwood-Belleville in Miami Gardens, Fla. Five of FMU's eight wins have come in the last 10 games, including two of their three TSC victories.
