Woodard Defends National Title in Hammer Throw

| By:
GULF SHORES, Ala. – Embry-Riddle women's track & field senior Reta Woodard successfully defended her hammer throw national title on Thursday morning at the 2014 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Woodard won the second flight of the hammer throw with a distance of 55.46m, to earn the top seed in the finals; the Eagles' mark then proved to be good enough to hold on to claim the national title. Hastings took second and third place overall with McKayla Gowen earning runner-up honors with a mark of 54.82m and Jennifer Maag in third place with a mark of 54.12m.

This is the second year in a row Woodard has claimed the hammer throw title, and she now has four national titles in her stellar Blue and Gold career, after taking the 2012 and 2014 weight throw titles at the Indoor National Championship.

Woodard will round out her Eagle career as she looks to place in the discus competition Saturday at 3 p.m.

Updates on the Eagles' results throughout the national meet will be available at http://www.erauathletics.com upon completion of each day of competition.
