EAGLES OPEN 2014 HOME SCHEDULEEmbry-Riddle opens up the 2014 home schedule tonight by hosting NCAA II Barry at the ERAU Soccer Stadium. The Eagles began their campaign last week with a 2OT draw against NCAA II Flagler in St. Augustine, getting goals from
Veit Couturier and
Daniel Gylfason in the first half. The Saints were able to tie the game with just 9.3 seconds to go in regulation and the two squads settled for a 2-2 tie after a pair of extra periods.
Blue and Gold goalkeeper
Nils Carlson made nine saves in goal last Thursday, facing 26 shots in 110 minutes. The Vastra, Sweden native has played in 3,015 consecutive minutes for the Eagles in net, dating back to Sept. 15, 2012.
ERAU, in its last year of NAIA and The Sun Conference competition, will play a full Sunshine State Conference schedule beginning next season, leading to the Eagles and Buccaneers meeting annually.
Embry-Riddle wraps up the non-conference portion of the season slate with a road trip to Rollins on Sept. 17 before jumping right into Sun Conference action with a pair of road games at Northwood (Sept. 24) and Johnson & Wales (Sept. 27).
ABOUT THE BUCCANEERSBarry, coming off a 4-1 win over Johnson & Wales on Wednesday night, stands at 2-1 on the year with the Buccaneers' lone loss coming at the hands of NCAA II No. 11 Young Harris (Ga.).
Frank Lustig leads the Bucs with three goals on the year, including a pair on Wednesday night against Johnson & Wales. Barry goalkeeper Robby Shearer has played all 270 minutes in goal for the Buccaneers, making 12 saves and posting a 1.67 GAA in his first three contests of the 2014 season.

HOME OPENERSEmbry-Riddle is 6-3-1 in its last 10 home openers, with two consecutive losses to Rollins (5-1 in 2013) and Lee (1-0 in 2012).
FINAL NAIA SEASONThe Eagles will close out their NAIA program history in the 2014 season as the Embry-Riddle Athletic Department will begin transitioning to NCAA II and the Sunshine State Conference. 2014-15 marks Candidacy Year One for the Embry-Riddle program, followed by Candidacy Year Two in 2015-16 and Provisional Membership in 2016-17.
If Embry-Riddle continues to meet all of the NCAA and SSC requirements, the Eagles will become full-fledged members of the NCAA II and the Sunshine State Conference in 2017-18.
EAGLES RANKED No. 9 IN PRESEASON POLLFollowing a succesful 2013 season, the Eagles received preseason recognition from the NAIA Coaches' Poll as Embry-Riddle was slotted ninth in the preseason poll.
ERAU was also chosen to repeat as Sun Conference regular season champions by the league coaches, earning four first-place votes and 93 total points in the poll.
