DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Junior Hui-I Huang and sophomore Paula Ortiz Couder teamed up to win the 2014 USTA/ITA Florida Regional doubles title, Sunday at Embry-Riddle's Crotty Tennis Complex.

The duo entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed and faced third-seeded and defending regional champions Maria Barragan and Daniela Arcila of SCAD Savannah in the championship match. As was the case in the semifinal round, the ERAU tandem had to come from behind in order to get the win. Barragan and Arcila took control of the match early on, winning the first set 6-3, but Huang and Ortiz Couder rallied to take the second frame by the same score and force a decisive third set.

Barragan and Arcila surged ahead in the 10-point tiebreaker, 2-0, but Huang and Ortiz Couder won the next two points to tie the score at 2-2, and from that point a back-and-forth battle ensued. With the set knotted at 8-8, the ERAU pair moved ahead on a double fault and on the next rally, Ortiz Couder finished a volley that SCAD could not return to give the Eagles the win.

Earlier in the day, Huang competed in the singles championship, but was unable to get by Northwood's Adelaide Wood, falling 6-3, 6-1 and finishing as the regional runner-up for the second time in her career.

With the win, Huang and Ortiz Couder have secured a berth in the USTA/ITA Small College Championships held October 9-12 at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina. Huang will be looking for her second ITA/NAIA national doubles title after partnering with Kristina Marova to bring home the national crown in 2013.
