SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team suffered its second loss of the year to a Sunshine State opponent, falling 9-0 to Saint Leo on Thursday. The Eagles, ranked second in the NAIA, move to 4-2 on the year, while the NCAA II No. 3 Lions improve to 5-1.
The Lions grabbed the advantage early, sweeping all three doubles points as Isa Robbiani and Maria Benikirane topped
Hui-I Huang and Anna Götz 8-5, Gaby Paul and Caralie Presenti bested
Paula Ortiz Couder and
Kathryn Bock by the same score, and Ana Wagner and Pauline Helgesson downed
Giovanna Tomiotto and
Ana Gonzalez-Hoy 8-4.
The Lions grabbed straight-set victories in all six singles contests, including at the No. 1 spot where Robbiani scored the clincher with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Huang.
The Eagles' next match will be at 3:30 p.m. on March 4 against Cardinal Stritch.
