ABOUT THE EAGLES The Embry-Riddle women's tennis is riding a four-match winning streak dating back to March 12, and is 8-3 overall and 4-0 in Sun Conference play. Their last time out saw the Blue and Gold battle NAIA No. 9 Oklahoma Baptist to a 7-2 win. The highlight of that match was
Hui-I Huang's two-set upset of second-ranked Anastasia Baranova. Huang leads the Eagles with 10 singles and 17 doubles wins on the year, playing at the top spot in the Eagle lineup.
THE WARRIORSWebber International is 2-7 overall and 1-3 in Sun Conference play in the 2015 season. The Warriors suffered a 5-0 loss to Northwood on Monday.
The ERAU-WIU SERIESThe Eagles and the Warriors are meeting for the 20th time in women's tennis. The Eagles have won all of the previous 19 match-ups, including a 9-0 defeat of the Warriors on April 3, 2014.
The Last MeetingThe Embry-Riddle women's tennis team surrendered just five games in doubles and seven games in singles en route to a 9-0 shutout of Sun Conference foe Webber International on Thursday. The victory propelled the sixth-ranked ERAU women to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Shutouts at the second and third doubles spots gave the Eagles an early 2-0 lead as
Paula Ortiz Couder and
Meena Bennett blanked Daniela Melo and Zolboo Batbaatar 8-0, and
Paola Montero and
Anna Götz downed Chandler Reed and Maria Julia Lucas by the same margin. At No. 1 doubles,
Kristina Marova and
Hui-I Huang earned the Eagles' third point with an 8-5 defeat of Daniela Caruso and Nathalia Chaddad to complete the doubles sweep.
Ortiz Couder and Montero kept their shutout streak going in with 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles action as Ortiz Couder bested Lucas and Montero topped Melo. Bennett followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Batbaatar, while Huang downed Caruso 6-3, 6-0. Götz defeated Chaddad 6-1, 6-2 and Marova capped the Eagles' scoring with an 8-0 win over Reed.
The Eagle will be back in action at 2 p.m. on Saturday when they host fifth-ranked SCAD Savannah in an NAIA top-10 battle at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
