DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The sixth-ranked Embry-Riddle women's tennis team secured a spot in the championship match of the 2015 Sun Conference women's tennis tournament with a 5-1 win against No. 8 Northwood (7-6), Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The tournament's No. 2 seed, the Eagles (13-4) swept all three doubles points en route to their 13th win of the season.
 
Wins at the first and third doubles positions helped the Eagles to a 2-0 lead as Hui-I Huang and Anna Götz downed Adelaide Wood and Valentina Souki 8-3, and Giovanna Tomiotto and Meena Bennett bested Livia Toth and Lola Garcia 8-2.
 
The match at No. 2 doubles was a battle between ERAU's Paula Ortiz Couder and Kathryn Bock and Northwood's Matilde Thibadult and Rocio Merlo. The Northwood pair led 5-4, but ERAU won the next two games to move ahead 6-5. Both sides held serve to make the score 8-7 and on the next Northwood service game, the Eagles registered a break to win the match and give ERAU a 3-0 advantage.
 
Singles play featured a strong showing by Huang at the top spot. In three previous meetings between Huang and Wood, the Northwood senior got the better of the match-up, but Friday's contest went to Huang who posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory to increase the Eagle lead to 4-0.
 
Northwood managed to get a point back at No. 3 singles via Thibadult's 6-0, 6-2 win over Ortiz Couder, but Bock wrapped up the win for the Blue and Gold by holding off Toth 6-3, 7-5 at the fifth spot.
 
The Eagles will be back in action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they take on the winner of the second semifinal between SCAD Savannah and Southeastern.
