DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The second-seeded Embry-Riddle women's tennis team was unable to repeat as tournament champions as the Eagles fell to top seed SCAD Savannah (12-4) in the championship match of the 2015 Sun Conference Tournament on Saturday.
 
The battle of two top-10 NAIA programs saw the fifth-ranked Bees take hold of the match early as Maria Barragan and Daniela Arcila topped sixth-ranked ERAU's No. 2 tandem of Paula Ortiz Couder and Kathryn Bock 8-4. At the top spot, Camille Gbaguadi and Carolina Viteri managed to hold off Anna Götz and Hui-I Huang 9-7.
 
The one-hour, 45-minute contest at No. 3 doubles between ERAU's Giovanna Tomiotto and Meena Bennett and SCAD's Janina Miztecky and Karina Rovira went back and forth and need a tiebreaker to decide the out come. In the end, SCAD was able to hold off ERAU in the extra frame, 7-3, and took a 3-0 lead into doubles.
 
A dominant outing by 11^th-ranked Gbaguaidi extended the SCAD lead to 4-0 as she bested Huang 6-1, 6-0 at the top spot. The clinching point came on the sixth singles court as Rovira fended off a second-set rally by Bock to win 6-2, 6-3 to give the Bees the title.
 
The tournament title gives the Bees an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship in Mobile, Ala.., May 12-16. The Eagles, now13-5 overall, have a chance to receive an at-large bid, but will not know officially until the tournament field is released in May.
