DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The sixth-ranked West Florida women's tennis team rode a doubles sweep to a 7-2 win over Embry-Riddle, Wednesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles fell to 4-5 with the loss while the Argonauts improved to 9-2 on the year.
 
Paula Lopez and Nina Bubelova got the scoring started with a 8-0 win over Paula Oritz Couder and Kathryn Bock at No. 2 doubles. Valerie Mantilla and Diana Vlad followed with a 8-3 win over Giovanna Tomiotto and Meena Bennet at the third spot and Hannah Toro and Katarina Dikosavljevic completed the sweep with an 8-5 win over Hui-I Huang and Anna Götz at the top spot.
 
Götz got the first singles point of the day on court two. The ERAU senior was leading 3-2 when her opponent, Toro, retired due to injury.
 
The Argonauts then won singles points on courts three, six, one and five, including Flores' 6-1, 6-1 win over Bennett at the sixth spot that clinched the match for UWF.
 
The final match of the day was between Tomiotto and Vlad. After besting Vlad 7-5 in the first set, Tomiotto fell behind 3-0 in the second. The ERAU senior displayed great resiliency as she won the next six games to take the match and improve her season record to 14-9.
 
The Eagles' next contest will be on March 25 when they host Nova Southeastern in a 3:30 p.m. match.
