DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's tennis team returned to the win column on Thursday by virtue of a 7-2 win on the road against 38^th-ranked Palm Beach Atlantic. Ranked No. 31, the Eagles improved their overall record to 8-8, while the Sailfish fall to 8-9.
 
The Eagles swept all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead into singles play, beginning with Hui-I Huang and Anna Götz's 8-0 defeat of Valerie Nagovitcina and Maja Jovic the top spot. Next to them on court two, Paula Ortiz Couder and Kathryn Bock bested Kathi Tesar/Taylor Conti 8-5.
 
The Eagles' third flight tandem of Giovanna Tomiotto and Meena Bennett fell behind early to Teona Tatishvili/Michaela Mignemi, 6-3. Unfazed by the deficit, the ERAU duo rattled off five straight wins to take the match 8-6 and give the Blue and Gold a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.
 
Ortiz Couder battled Tatishvili to a 6-4, 6-3 win to put the Eagles up 4-0, and Huang assured the Eagles of a victory when she bested Tesar 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
 
Götz and Tomiotto also needed three sets to decide their matches as Götz held off Nagovitcina 6-7 (8-10), 7-5, 10-7, and Tomiotto downed Jovic 4-6, 6-4, 10-2.
 
The final two matches were played as eight-game pro sets and both contests went to Palm Beach Atlantic with Mignemi topping Bennett 8-4 and Conti downing Bock 8-2.
 
The Eagles' next match will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday when they travel across the state to take on Tampa.
