DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Embry-Riddle women's track & field team kicked off the Spikes Classic on Friday. Stephanie Mueller set a school record and a personal record in a pair of events to highlight the day's action.
Alex Orr won the 5000m in 18:13.14, finishing nearly 20 seconds ahead of second place and a full minute ahead of third place.
Kortney Gray took second in the prelims of the 100m with a personal-best time of 11.99 to qualify for tomorrow's final. She also qualified for the finals of the 200m with a preliminary time of 26.44. Gray also finished third in the long jump with a distance of 5.38m.
Eliza Gazda was third in the 10,000m with a time of 40:21.85 and Kristen Metcalfe placed fourth in the 1500m in a personal-best time of 4:51.94.
In the field events, Mueller won the pole vault with a school-record height of 3.73m and took second in the high jump with a personal-best mark of 1.65m. Mueller finished second to Chaunte Lowe, the American record holder in the event and the bronze medalist from the 2008 Beijing Olympics, who posted a 1.80m jump.
Tarra Keating posted a third-place height of 3.20m in the pole vault to tie her personal best while Alexis Glenn was fourth in the high jump with a personal-best height of 1.55m.
Caitlyn Joslin finished fifth and set a personal best in the javelin with a mark of 27.41m and Paige Bussard was seventh in the shot put with a distance of 10.86m.
The Eagles will be back on their home track tomorrow to wrap up the Spikes Classic.
