Donayre/Ortiz Couder Lead Men’s Tennis at Juan Varon Invite

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle tandem of Juan Ortiz Couder and Andres Donayre continued their successful fall partnership by winning the Men's Doubles "A" flight at the Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational hosted by Bethune Cookman, Sunday at the Florida Tennis Center.

After receiving a first-round bye, Ortiz Couder and Donayre opened the tournament with a 6-1 win against Saint Leo's Bruno Falettto and David Perez. Semifinal action saw the ERAU duo down Florida A&M's Illya Skoromnyy and Luis Espinoza with another 6-1 tally, and in the championship match, the Eagles held off ASA Miami's Toru Horie and Tao Castillo 7-5 to win the flight.

Ortiz Couder also advanced to the championship match in the A singles flight. The senior topped Stetson's top-flight player, Louis Gorregues, 7-6 (3), 6-4 in his first match and bested Eastern Florida State College's Frederik Orvad 7-6 (6), 6-4 in the semifinals. Ortiz Couder was unable to extend his tournament win streak, however, as he was forced to retire with an injury in the championship match.
