ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle men's tennis earned a victory in its first match as an official member of the Sunshine State Conference, downing Eckerd (0-1) 9-0 at the Tritons' Fred Bullard courts. The 10
th-ranked Eagles are now 2-0 on the year and will take a 1-0 SSC record into tomorrow's match against 2017 league champion and national runner-up Barry at 11 a.m. at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
Juan Ortiz Couder and Lucas Bos earned the first point for the Blue and Gold with their 8-4 doubles win over Will Stone and Matt Spasie at the No. 2 doubles spot. Playing at No. 1 doubles, seventh-ranked
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre defeated Alasdair Knox and Connor Masella 8-1, and
Deepak Vishavkarma and Lucas Lesoeur wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory over Robert Vazquez and Alejandro Vucanovic on court three.
Ortiz Couder was also the first to finish his singles match as he dispatched Knox 6-1, 6-2 on court one. The clinching point came at the third position where Donayre bested Spasie 6-2, 6-2.
Arreygue (6-0, 6-1), Bos (6-1, 6-0) and Lesoeur (6-1, 6-0) all won comfortably, surrendering just one game apiece in their straight-set wins at the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively. Vishavkarma was the last to complete his match, which went to a third set. Vishavkarma took the first set 7-6 (3), but Stone came back to win the second by the same score. The final set was fiercely contested and in the end, it was the ERAU senior who was able to pull out a 10-8 win to preserve the shutout.
