DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 10th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team earned its third shutout of the season on Sunday with a 9-0 victory over West Chester at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are now 6-2 on the year, while the Golden Rams fall to 0-6.
The ERAU men surrendered just four games in doubles play.
Deepak Vishavkarma and
Mickael Faucher blanked Lucien DeCecco and Gavin Kenny 8-0 at the third spot for the Eagles' first point of the day.
Juan Ortiz Couder and Lucas Bos followed with an 8-1 win over Aiden Henken and Adam Courtemanche, and
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 win over Lucas Von de Heyde and Charlie Rushing at the top spot.
In his first match of the year at No. 3 singles, Faucher earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Henken. Loerwink made his first appearance in the Eagle lineup and on his birthday, the freshman clinched the Eagle victory with a 6-1, 6-0 defeat of DeCecco on court five.
Blake Rowheder and Zen Manwani also figured in ERAU dual match play for the first time in their collegiate careers. Rowheder downed Courtemanche 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 and Manwani bested Gavin Kenny 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
Ortiz Couder (6-4, 6-2) and Bos (6-2, 6-1) capped the scoring for the Eagles at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively.
Next up for the Blue and Gold is an 11 a.m. home match against Bluefield State on Tuesday.
