DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The 10
th-ranked Embry-Riddle men's tennis team notched an 8-1 victory over Bluefield State, Tuesday at the Crotty Tennis Complex. The Eagles are no 7-2 on the year, while the Big Blue drop to 6-5.
Juan Ortiz Couder and Lucas Bos got the Eagles' first point of the day with an 8-2 victory over Alex Rudenco and Luke Busse at No. 2 doubles.
Deepak Vishavkarma and
Mickael Faucher followed with an 8-5 win over Ignacio Pulido and Tom Schmieta at the third spot, and
Rodolfo Arreygue and
Andres Donayre completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Arthur Figuiere and Giorgi Datashvili on court one.
At the second singles position, Donayre won the first set 6-2 and got the Eagles fourth point when his opponent, Rudenco, retired with an injury. Ortiz Couder was next off the court and his 6-0, 6-4 win over Figuiere at No. 1 scored the clinching point for the Blue and Gold.
The Big Blues got a point back when Schmieta topped Bos 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4, but Vishavkarma reclaimed the four-point advantage when he downed Pulido 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) at the third spot and Arreygue made it 7-1 with his 7-5 6-2 win over Busse.
The last match off the court was a battle between Faucher and Lorenzo Panariti on court six. Panariti edged Faucher 7-6 (7-0) in the first set, but Faucher fought back to take the second 6-4 before pulling out a 10-7 win in the third to close out the day's scoring.
The Eagles' next match will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday when they host third-ranked NAIA foe Keiser at the Crotty Tennis Complex.
