DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Senior
Mickael Faucher led the Embry-Riddle men's tennis team at the ERAU Open at the Crotty Tennis Complex as the three-day tournament concluded on Sunday. The ERAU Open marked the final tune up for the Eagles before ITA regional play begins on Thursday.
Faucher, who was 3-1 in the tournament, was 2-0 in the final two rounds of play. He led 5-1 against Juan Pendones Zerba before the Eastern Florida State College player retired with an injury, and earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Flagler's Alex Carbonell. Faucher also enjoyed a successful doubles partnership with
Lucas Bos as the duo bested Carbonell and Grant Kayworth 8-2, and downed Bethune Cookman's Jose Plazas and Victor Castro 8-3.
Sunday's play also saw the Eagles' Blake Rowheder and
Tim Loerwink team up for an 8-1 doubles defeat of Nicklas Heil and Carbonell. That victory came after Rowheder downed Carbonell 6-3, 6-2 and Loerwink topped Gonzalo Smulski 6-2, 6-3 in singles play.
The 2018 ITA South Regional will be hosted by Florida Southern at the Wynee Warden Tennis Complex in Lakeland, Florida. Tournament play begins on Friday.
