NEW ORLEANS, La. –
Kristen Metcalfe was honored as the USTFCCCA NCAA II Female National Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, following her dominating performance at the USC Indoor Open on Saturday, Feb. 16. She becomes the first Embry-Riddle athlete to win National Athlete of the Week honors during indoor season.
Metcalfe earned the selection after adding herself to the record book yet again this season. The senior won the 800m by over five seconds in a school-record time of 2:06.22. That time also broke the University of South Carolina indoor facility record, was a provisional qualifying mark, and was the third-fastest time this season in NCAA II. Later in the day, she won the mile by 11 seconds, shattering the facility record by nearly 14 seconds in the process.
