NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Embry-Riddle women's track & field team is ranked 16th in the latest NCAA II National Rating Index and second in the latest NCAA II South Region Rankings, released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The USTFCCCA also announced the All-Region honorees on Tuesday, with ERAU receiving 20 honors, the second-most of any school in the South Region behind Lee, who had 21.
In the regional rankings, Embry-Riddle finished second in the South with 380.66 points, behind only Lee (527.12). Alabama – Huntsville (349.59), Benedict (350.72), and Montevallo (259.18) rounded out the top five.
Nationally, the Blue and Gold jumped up four spots to No. 16 with a total of 42.24 points. Adams State was the top team in the national rankings with 267.74 points, followed by Grand Valley State (198.28) and Lincoln (Mo.) (132.93).
The rankings are determined using the regional or national descending order lists for individual and relay events to calculate a point total for each team. The higher an athlete is ranked in the descending order lists, the more points she accumulates for her team; the more high-ranking athletes a team has, the higher their score.
In order to earn a selection to the All-Region team, an athlete must be ranked among the top five in an event within their respective region, or be a member of a relay team ranked in their region's top three. There were a total of 811 women from 157 different institutions that earned All-Region honors. With 27 men and 20 women earning All-Region honors, Embry-Riddle was one of only four programs in NCAA II to have more than 40 student-athletes selected, along with Grand Valley State, Queens (N.C.), and Lee.
Six Eagles were All-Region in multiple events, led by
Kristen Metcalfe, who earned the distinction in four different events. Other multiple-discipline honorees included
