FELLSMERE, Fla. – On Saturday, the Embry-Riddle women's rowing team traveled to Canal 54 in Fellsmere to participate in the Division II Duals hosted by Florida Tech. During the event, ERAU was able to compete in dual races against both Florida Tech and Nova Southeastern.
First up, Embry-Riddle's Varsity Eight boat of
Kathryn Chilelli,
Lauren Stollenwerk,
Gwendolyn Powell,
Kaya Treder,
Bethany Thompson,
Kassidi Flynn,
Alexandra Popielarz,
Melinda Fix, and
Rachel Hemsworth lost by just 2.79 seconds to the NSU boat, clocking a time of 7:21.19.
Following that, the Eagles' Varsity Four boat of
Casey McMahon,
Tracey Loeffler,
Becca McBride,
Athena Padgiotis, and
Julianna Snider came up about eight seconds short against the Sharks, posting a time of 8:36.26 against the NSU time of 8:28.60.
The same boats then raced against Florida Tech, with the Varsity Eight boat coming up about 17 seconds short in 7:37.74, while the Varsity Four boat finished in 8:48.02, about 30 seconds behind the Panthers' boat.
Finally, Embry-Riddle raced a second Varsity Four boat consisting of
Jodie Harmon,
Alina Gagliola,
Alyssa Crystal,
Alyssa Hodum, and
Mackenzie Cunningham in a three-way race against both the Panthers and the Sharks, with ERAU taking third place in 10:00.12.
"Today was a great opportunity to see where we stand against some of the top programs in the conference," Head Coach
Jamie Francis said. "I'm proud of the races we were able to put together today. We have some things to work on over the next five weeks leading up the conference championship, but I'm excited about the progress we've made."
Embry-Riddle will be back in action April 5-6 in Sarasota at the FIRA State Championships, where the Eagles will look to defend their state title from last year.
