Men's Track Concludes Spikes Classic

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A pair of school records and provisional standards highlighted the final day of the 2019 Spikes Classic on Saturday at the Embry-Riddle Track & Field Complex. Henri Delauze broke an eight-year school record in the 400m before he and three others broke the program record in the 4x400m relay.

Delauze's time of 47.72 in the 400m was good enough for second in the finals, finishing behind DePaul's Henry Larkin. Delauze's new school record broke Reagan Beal's mark set back in 2011. Josiah Soto finished fifth in the 400m with a time of 48.58, also a personal record.

The 4x400m relay team provided a huge spark of excitement to end the Spikes Classic as senior Lonnie Marts held off and then out-leaned the anchor runner from Bethune-Cookman at the finish line to give the Eagles the race title and a new school record. Delauze, Soto and Andrew Mappes combined with Marts to run a 3:12.50, breaking the previous school record by more than a second (3:13.56 at the 2010 NAIA National Championships).

John-Paul Dean set a personal-best in the decathlon, totalling 3,716 points to finish seventh overall. David Wilson finished right behind his teammate with 3,602 points, also setting a personal record, including all five decathlon events on the day - discus, pole vault, javelin, 110m hurdles and 1,500m.

Zackary Carpenter finished first amongst all collegiate competitors in the hammer with a 50.01m mark, setting a personal record. Michael Haynes (46.20m), Terrence Bobet (44.86m) and Kenny Onobogu (44.51m) also finished in the top-eight.

A trio of Eagles set personal-best marks in the discus, led by Luis Rivera's 47.09m throw that won the event. Haynes (44.71m) finished second, while Carpenter (41.75m) placed sixth. Connor Guinn (38.34m) and Marts (37.52m) also threw personal-bests on Saturday.

Calahan Warren was the first collegiate to cross the line in the 800m, finishing in 1:52.46, while Austin Epstein (1:59.15) and Justin Nauman (1:59.87) ran the fastest times of their careers.

The Eagles will head to the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville on April 5 to wrap up the 2019 regular season before returning home to host the Peach Belt Conference Championships (April 18-20).
