PITTSBURG, Kansas -
Brodie Lubelski became the first-ever NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field All-American for Embry-Riddle on Saturday, placing eighth overall in the shot put at the 2019 NCAA II Indoor Track & Field Championships. Lubelski's first throw of the day was the one that pushed him to the finals and ultimately put him eighth overall.
Calahan Warren, running in the men's Mile, finished in ninth-place overall.
Lubelski made his first throw count, recording a 17.92m distance before a 17.73m mark on his third and final throw of the prelims. Lubelski qualified for the finals, placing sixth after his first three throws, but failed to record a distance in the finals, faulting three times. Lubelski's 17.92m throw was good enough for the senior to finish eighth overall, claiming All-America honors for the first time in his Blue and Gold career. Eldred Henry won the event and the national title with a meet record of 20.18m.
Because he finished eighth, Lubelski earned team points for the Eagles, as well as points towards the NCAA II Director's Cup Standings.
Warren, who qualified for the finals of the Mile yesterday with a time of 4:18.60, ran a similar time on Saturday, finishing in 4:18.64 for ninth place overall. Felix Wammetsberger of Queens (N.C.) won the national title in 4:11.18.
Kristen Metcalfe, who was slated to run in both the 800m and Mile finals for the ERAU women, was a late scratch due to injury.
Embry-Riddle will now turn it's attention fully to the outdoor season. ERAU's next meet is the IMG Academy Meet in Bradenton, Florida, March 15-16.
