SARASOTA, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle women's rowing team competed in the Sunshine State Conference Rowing Championship regatta at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota on Friday, finishing in fourth place with 16 points. Kaya Treder earned a spot on the All-SSC Rowing Team while Bethany Thompson was named to the All-Freshman/Novice Team.
 
The Eagles Varsity Four boat of Casey McMahon, Becca McBride, Athena Padgiotis, Julianna Snider, and Tracey Loeffler finished fifth, clocking in a time of 7:56.7, more than 20 seconds faster than ERAU's Varsity Four time at last year's SSC Championships.
 
ERAU's Varsity Eight boat, consisting of Kathryn Chilelli, Gwendolyn Powell, Kaya Treder, Kassidi Flynn, Alexandra Popielarz, Bethany Thompson, Rachel Hemsworth, Melinda Fix, and Lauren Stollenwerk earned a third-place finish with a time of 6:49.4, almost 40 seconds faster than last year's time.
 
There was also a three-boat exhibition race of second Varsity Four boats, where the Eagle team of Jodie Harmon, Alina Gagliola, Alyssa Crystal, Alyssa Hodum, and Madeline Casper took third in 9:13.7.
 
The Eagles tallied 16 points to place fourth, just three points behind Nova Southeastern (19 points) and five points behind Barry (21). Florida Tech won the event with 30 points, while Rollins came in fifth (11) and Tampa was sixth (8).
 
"Congratulations to Florida Tech on winning the conference championship and I wish them luck at the NCAAs," Head Coach Jamie Francis said. "The Sunshine State Conference boats showed their speed today with two fantastic races. I am very proud of the results we put up, especially in the eight. A special shout out to senior Melinda Fix who contributed to the eight's progress all through the spring."
 
After the races, the SSC announced its All-Freshman/Novice and All-Conference teams, with Thompson earning one of the six spots on the All-Freshman/Novice Team and Treder claiming one of the nine positions on the All-Conference Team.
