KINGSVILLE, Texas – The 2019 NCAA II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships came to a close on Saturday and
Brodie Lubelski had a strong showing in the shot put as the lone competitor for the Eagle men.
Lubelski was placed in the second flight of the event and on his second throw he recorded a season-best distance of 18.03m, which put him in sixth place at the time. He slipped to seventh place at the end of the first round, which was good enough to advance him to the finals, giving him three additional throws. The senior's fifth throw was 17.95m, but his 18.03m mark would stand as his top throw of the event, eventually earning him an eighth-place result, making him a First Team All-American.
His eighth-place finish added a point to the team total, which, when added to
Connor Guinn's four points from the decathlon, gave the Eagles a total score of five points, good for a 43rd-place finish overall.
Lubelski became the third Eagle male athlete to claim All-America honors at this year's meet, along with Guinn and
Lonnie Marts in the decathlon. For Lubelski, it is his second All-American performance after he placed eighth in the shot put at this year's Indoor National Championships in March.
