Shaun Bullock won the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:26.74.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – With the sounds of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in the background, the Embry-Riddle men's track and field team did some racing of a different sort at the ERAU Track and Field Complex during the ERAU Indoor/Outdoor Challenge. The event saw fellow SSC school Florida Southern participate, as well as several schools from the NAIA ranks and former competitors of Embry-Riddle from The Sun Conference.
"In general, we showed a lot of improvement from last week to this meet," said Head Coach
Mike Rosolino. "I was proud of the effort today. We had several personal bests which shows that we are working hard and getting better. We need to build on this and get better each week."
The weight throw saw
Terrence Bobet card a fourth-place effort with a distance of 14.23m, and was joined in the top-10 by
Zackary Carpenter, who's 13.72 was good enough for seventh-place. Former Eagles thrower
Michael Haynes, competing unattached, posted a runner-up mark with a throw of 15.23m.
In the shot-put, Bobet was also placed in the top-five with a 13.12m effort. Switching to the discus, Lubelski claimed the top spot,with a throw of 45.91m.
Heinrich Adriaanse (42.63) placed fourth, while Jake Lyons (35.33) checked in at 12th. Haynes also placed in the top-five with a third-place effort of 42.83m.
The triple jump saw
Matthew Djangmah card a fourth-place mark with a distance of 13.24m. Djangmah also finished 10th in the long jump with his 6.25m try.
John-Paul Dean (6.05m) and Adriaanse (5.89m) posted finishes in the top-15 of the event. The 5.89m try by Adriaanse was good for a new personal-best in the event.
In the pole vault, it was Steele Alliva who led the way with a fourth-place finish, as he cleared 4.10m.
Colin McNally, (4.10m),
Trenton Brown (3.95m),
Matt Contreras (3.80m) and
Jeremy Niemiec (3.65m) swept the sixth through ninth spots on the results sheet. The high jump saw a pair of top-10 finishes from the Eagles' duo of
Jeremy Mog and
Zakary Smith, both of whom cleared the 1.75m mark. Smith also set a new PR in the event.
On the track in the 3,000 meters,
Ryan Szklany (8:43.27) came up just short of a win, as Florida Southern's Joshua Wagner edged him at the line by only a second.
Garrett Noltemeyer (9:27.46) posted a top-15 effort, coming in 13th.
The 800 meters saw four Eagles place in the top-ten, as
Charles Hruda (1:57.50) led the way in fourth.
Austin Epstein (1:59.30) finished tied for seventh, and was followed by
Josh Collins (1:59.50) in ninth and
Bryce Walker (2:02.00) in tenth. Walker's time was a new personal-best for the event.
In the 60m hurdles, Jahi Deloatch was the high-placing Eagle, turning in an eighth-place run in a time of 8.55 seconds.
Connor Page (8.95),
Heinrich Adriaanse (9.01) and Luke Drummonds (9.06) finished 14th, 15th and 16
th, respectively, with Page setting a new personal record in the race.
The 600 meters saw
Johnathan Washington (1:24.34) take home a fifth-place marker to lead a trio of Eagles.
Darrell Thomas (1:27.60) finished 10th while
Bradon Black (1:28.59) placed 11th. Former Olympian Michael Mathieu won the event in a time of 1:21.78.
John Bai was the lone runner for the Eagles in the 1,000 meters, as his 3:03.97 was good for a top-15 run and a new personal record. The 400m saw
Revendy Paul (50.29) lead the Eagles' contingent with fifth-place run. He was joined in the top-10 by Black (50.76) who finished sixth and set a new personal record in doing so, along with
Will Moten (50.89) in eighth. Walker and
Johnathan Washington posted results that finished in the top-15.
The 60-meter dash saw Moten card a 17th place finish in a time of 7.12 seconds, a new personal best for the junior from Washington, D.C.
Calahan Warren handily took home the top-spot in the mile with a time of 4:08.31, which sets a school record for the outdoor mile. He was followed by Szklany (4:26.99) in second and Epstein (4:44.88) in eighth.
Shaun Bullock led from the start in the 5,000 meters and never looked back, as he finished first in 15:26.74.
Tanner Rosolino, running unattached at Saturday's meet, took home second in 16:46.96.
The last race of the day was the 4x400 relay, and the trio of Eagle teams all carded top-10 results to cap a strong showing for the day. The a-team of Black, Hruda, Moten and Paul claimed the top spot with a time of 3:20.61, the best run in the event by an Eagle team this season. The b-team of
Darrell Thomas, Washington, Walker and
Ryan Bethell turned in a fifth-place showing of 3:25.65, while the c-team of Warren, Djangmah, Epstein and Deloatch placed 10th in 3:40.13.
The Eagles return to the track in Columbia, South Carolina Jan. 31- Feb. 1 to participate in the Carolina Challenge.
